Written in a very simplistic style, the narrative illustrates perfectly how integrity and determination can lead one literally from the depths of base despair and ill-treatment to an honorable and fulfilling life. It is so good to read that the author is fully aware of the rewards granted, having battled ...and won incredible challenges.
If your looking for an inspirational story that draws you in and shows you that nothing is impossible as long as there is persistence, drive and passion - this is your book. Eder has captured a very real struggle that is geographically located in Colombia, S.A., however, it is a story that resonates across oceans - if one is feeling alone with thoughts that one does not dare speak, then this book will help show you that there is a light at the end of the tunnel - a light that is not as far as it looks.
Even if most of this tale of human courage and endurance is only half true - it is still remarkable.
I tended to wonder at the author's ability for total recall of complete conversations many, many years after the event. Still, I suppose he was only relating the gist of the text?
Truly inspirational.....
I heard about Eder through the Internet Marketing community and his work at Integrate. At first I was hoping for more of his story talking about his career but was pleased that this told an inspirational story of his upbringing and the struggles he went through to get to the U.S. This book makes any U.S. Resident really appreciate how great we have it and the opportunity available to us that people around the world would risk everything for. I could see this book turned in to a movie since it includes a vast amount of details that takes the reader right along side the journey. Great book Eder and I am eager to read more!
What an amazing experience that brought this forsaken child, this resourceful young teen, on such a journey. And instead of leaving this young man bitter and angry, instead he has great compassion for others.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from the beginning to the end.Once I started reading,I could not hardly wait to get to the finish and find out how Eder had fared.He seems to be a compassionate person and I consider my own perception of the world to have benefited a small measure from his words.Now I want to read more of them but the book is over.
Dreaming of Hope Street opened my heart, my eyes, my mind to aspects of life I knew of only vaguely, or not at all. It is more than a book, reading it was an intense life experience. Line by line, page by page, through the torrents and streams of Eder Holguin’s journey to Hope Street, my understanding of my own life deepened by contrast.
For his courage, self-discipline and determination at tender age – I am in awe. Survival alone would have been incredible. That he rose above the dispiriting circumstance of his birth, succeeded and thrived – without bitterness – and with an inspiring vision for the world – is inspiring for me in ways that I shall ever hold dear in my heart.
Eder’s journey now touches my journey – my path is broadened – as is “my dream”.
